If you are thinking your upcoming breast augmentation will definitely provide you with that deep, sexy cleavage you always wanted, think again. There are more factors to cleavage than just the size of your breast. To get the highly sought after cleavage of Scarlett Johansson or Jessica Simpson, your natural anatomy needs to be just right. Here are a few questions Dr. Vitenas hears most often on the subject:
Dear Dr. Vitenas,
Do larger breasts mean more cleavage?
This is a common misconception, having larger breasts does not guarantee greater cleavage. It does take ample breast tissue to create cleavage; but factors such as the shape of your chest wall, distance between breasts, and your amount of overall body fat, will ultimately determine the amount of cleavage you can have.
Dear Dr. Vitenas,
Can’t we just place my new breast implants closer together, to create cleavage?
No, there will be a very specific location of the breast pockets made for your new implants; this will maintain your appropriate breast shape, otherwise they will look off-center or misshapen. Beware of any physician who tells you their implants will make your breasts closer together; while they can be made larger, breast implants cannot change your existing anatomy.
Dear Dr. Vitenas,
Can my breasts or body be surgically manipulated to create more cleavage?
While implants can provide increased shape and volume to your breasts, and a lift can improve sagging tissue, your breasts cannot simply be ‘moved’ closer together. A procedure of this nature would mean removing a portion of your chest muscles, sternum, and even your ribs – something that is not recommended under any circumstance.
Dear Dr. Vitenas,
Is it normal to have breasts that do not create cleavage?
Very normal – some women’s breast muscles are set closer together and some farther apart; closer set breasts will provide more cleavage, while those farther apart may have very little. Everyone’s anatomy is different, and there is no set standard for the ‘correct’ amount of cleavage.
Dear Dr. Vitenas,
I really want cleavage, but my breasts have a natural separation, what can I do?
There are fantastic bras on the market that can push breasts closer together, creating temporary cleavage. Breast implants can provide added tissue volume, giving more volume to the breasts, which will increase the cleavage you can obtain with a bra.
