Breast Reduction (mammaplasty) is a surgical procedure designed to reduce sagging and heaviness of large breasts by reducing them in size and lifting them to a higher position on the chest.
At Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Paul Vitenas performs breast reduction surgery to help women with large breasts obtain a more natural shape and help with any associated pain and discomfort. Many large busted women elect to have this safe procedure for a variety of reasons – primarily to relieve back and neck pain and obtain a shape that is more proportional to their bodies.
You may want to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Paul Vitenas if you are a woman with:
- Large, heavy, sagging, or pendulous breasts
- Breasts that have enlarged after pregnancy and breast-feeding
- Persistent pain in your neck, back and shoulder and rashes under your breasts
- Feelings of embarrassment and discomfort with your body image
While it is true for some women that weight loss may help to reduce large breasts, it can’t alone take care of the problem for the majority of women who developed large breasts during adolescence. For these women, surgical removal of the excess tissue (breast reduction) is the recommended procedure to alleviate pain and to create more natural looking breasts.
Dependent upon your individual case, Dr. Paul Vitenas typically performs breast reduction by making a periareola and inverted T incision that circles the areola, extends in a vertical line below the nipple, and runs horizontally along the crease beneath the breast. Once the incision is made, excess fatty tissue, glandular tissue and skin are removed. The patient’s nipple and areola are repositioned to restore a natural look. Dr. Vitenas also recommends liposuction in the armpit region to achieve a better natural breast contour.
Breast reduction surgery permanently removes the excess tissue and some of the fat cells. However, Dr. Vitenas advises that if you gain excess weight you can regain some of the fat in your breasts.
Dr. Vitenas performs breast reduction at the Houston Surgery Center, a fully accredited surgical facility in Houston, TX, located in the same building as Vitenas Cosmetic Surgery. The procedure takes about three hours to complete and is performed with general anesthesia by a board certified anesthesiologist.
Most women have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the recovery process which takes about seven to ten days. The breasts may ache at first but medication can help to control this. Work can usually be resumed within a few days, though patients will need to hold off on more strenuous activities for four to six weeks.
New developments in breast reduction surgery, combined with Dr. Vitenas’ minimally invasive surgical techniques and skills, results in natural looking breasts with limited patient discomfort. Breast reduction surgery produces excellent aesthetic results.
“Thanks for all you and your staff have done for me. As well as reassuring my husband of my procedure. My breast reduction went wonderfully well and actually better than I had hoped for. I am so happy with the results. I hope this procedure will encourage others that might need to find a great surgeon for a breast lift surgery.”
